Hi everyone,
I hope you are enjoying the last day of your weekend! Today I thought I would write a quick note on small talk.
Have you engaged in small talk recently?
If you don't know what small talk is, I have written a few paragraphs below.
Small talk is a conversation at the start of addressing someone. Usually small talk is not about work, but rather about how the other person is, or how their family and job has been. Small talk is even used at the beginning of meetings, dinners, parties, and over the telephone.
This is very common especially when talking to colleagues or co-workers who you have not seen in a few months or even years.
In some countries, small talk is really important to make a connection with the other person, even on the phone. This is true in the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States.
In some other countries such as Sweden or Germany, small talk is not so important.
It also depends if you see the person you are talking to, everyday. The small talk over the phone for a business situation is sometimes non existent, or at least would not be as long as for someone you have not spoken to for a few months.
What do you think of small talk?
See you,
Zia
