When I was a kid (back in the 1980s), Anime was nowhere near as popular in America as it is now. In fact, I would never even hear of that genre until decades later. However, I was a huge fan of an Anime series growing up, before I even knew about Anime--and that series was Robotech.
Robotech was different from any other animated series I'd watched. First and foremost, the animation mezmorized me. It was far superior to any other series I'd seen. And I couldn't believe when characters died on the show. That just didn't happen on other animated shows. Characters would battle and get injured, and sometimes you thought the character died. But the characters on other shows never died. They died on Robotech, and that really shocked me.
The stories were also better than any other show. Most animated series' back then would have stand-alone episodes, meaning that the story did not continue to the next episode in most cases. There might be a part one and part two, but most of the episodes were not connected the way just about every TV show is today.
And of course, I loved the characters and the dialogue. I could watch episode after episode ane never get tired of watching. Each episode hooked you into watching the next one.
I don't watch Anime now. I'm more into documentaries or docuseries', but I do appreciate the Anime genre, and my cousins are huge fans, so I've at least kept up with some of the titles.
Do you have a favorite Anime series? What do you love about it? I'd love to hear your responses in the comments.
Have a great day everyone!
