7月7日（しちがつなのか）は七夕（たなばた）。この日（ひ）の夜（よる）、織姫星（おりひめぼし）（ベガ）と牽牛星（けんぎゅうぼし）（アルタイル）が天（あま）の川（がわ）を渡（わた）って年（ねん）に一度（いちど）だけ会（あ）うことができるといわれています。中国（ちゅうごく）の伝説（でんせつ）と日本（にほん）の古（ふる）い信仰（しんこう）が合（あ）わさってできたお話（はな）しです。

七夕（たなばた）まつりは、この日（ひ）、竹（たけ）に７つの飾（かざ）りをつけて、星（ほし）に願（ねが）いごとをする古（ふる）いお祭（まつ）りです。

7つの飾（かざ）りには、いろいろな意味（いみ）があります。

日本語初級（にほんごしょきゅう）で勉強（べんきょう）する「Vように」をつかって、星（ほし）にお願（ねが）いをします。

折鶴（おりづる）
「長生（ながい）きできるように」お願（ねが）いします。

吹（ふ）き流（なが）し
織姫（おりひめ）が使（つか）う糸（いと）を表（あらわ）しています。「織物（おりもの）が上手（じょうず）になるように」お願（ねが）いします。

投網（とあみ）
魚（さかな）をとる網（あみ）です。「魚（さかな）がたくさんとれるように」お願（ねが）いします。

財布（さいふ）
「お金（かね）にこまらないように」お願（ねが）いします。

着物（きもの）
「着（き）るものにこまらないように」または「裁縫（さいほう）がじょうずになるように」お願（ねが）いします。

くずかご
ほかの飾（かざ）りを作（つく）ったあとに出（で）た紙（かみ）くずを入（い）れます。「いつもきれいで質素（しっそ）に生活（せいかつ）できるように」お願（ねが）いします。

短冊（たんざく）
昔（むかし）の人（ひと）は、これに、勉強（べんきょう）した詩（し）を書（か）いて飾（かざ）りました。「勉強（べんきょう）がうまくいくように」「字（じ）が上手（じょうず）になるように」お願（ねが）いします。 

勤勉（きんべん）や質素（しっそ）な生活（せいかつ）を願（ねが）う、美（うつく）しいお祭（まつ）りだと思（おも）います。

飾（かざ）りを作（つく）ってみました。竹（たけ）がなかったので、竹（たけ）も作（つく）りました(*^^)v

仙台七夕（せんだいたなばた）まつり

七夕（たなばた）は、もともと家庭（かてい）や地域（ちいき）の素朴（そぼく）な行事（ぎょうじ）でしたが、仙台（せんだい）では1か月後（いっかげつご）の8月（6～8日）に「仙台七夕（せんだいたなばた）まつり」が行（おこな）われます。まつりでは、高（たか）さ10ｍぐらいの巨大（きょだい）で華美（かび）な竹飾（たけかざ）りが商店街（しょうてんがい）に並（なら）びます。

飾（かざ）りには、色（いろ）とりどりの「和紙（わし）」が使（つか）われます。とても豪華（ごうか）なので、伝統的（でんとうてき）な七夕（たなばた）と違（ちが）う感（かん）じがしますが、お祭（まつ）りのあと飾（かざ）りがいろいろなものに再利用（さいりよう）されるなど、質素（しっそ）・倹約（けんやく）の心（こころ）は生（い）きています。

July 7th is Tanabata-day. It is said Orihime(Vega), a female weaver, and Kengyu(Altair), her cowherd husband, can meet for the only time in the year across the Milky Way. This story was made from a mixture of a Chinese legend and Japanese old religion. 

Tanabata-matsuri is a traditional festival to wish upon stars displaying 7 ornaments with bamboo trees. 

The 7 ornaments have various meanings. We wish using a phrase ‘V-youni’ you learn in an elementary Japanese course.

Paper crane : a long life.

Paper streamer : to make progress in weaving. (It expresses thread Orihime uses for weaving.)

Fishing net : a big catch of fish

Wallet : no financial difficulties.

Kimono : no difficulties for clothes or to make progress in sewing.

Wastebasket : clean and simple life (We put scraps of paper left after making other ornaments into it.)

Paper strips : to study well or have good handwriting (They wrote poems they learned on them in the old days.)

I think it is a beautiful festival to wish diligence and simple life.

I tried to make an ornament. I made a bamboo tree too, because I couldn’t get one.(*^^)v

Sendai Tanabata Festival

It was originally a simple event at home or in local communities. In Sendai splendid ‘Sendai Tanabata Festival’ is held on August 6-8th, a month later. During this time huge gorgeous bamboo ornaments with a height of about 10m are displayed in shopping districts. Colorful washi (Japanese paper) is used for ornaments. They are so gorgeous that you may get the impression they are different from traditional Tanabata. But the spirit of simplicity and thrifty is maintained in it; e.g. ornaments are reused for various things after the festival.
