mangga

Do you like mangoes?  If you are crazy about this juicy, fleshy, golden yellow, delicious fruit, you definitely have to try a mango adventure in my country.  Our national fruit.  But wait, why are the mangoes in the picture green?  This variety is the Katchamita or Indian mangoes.  When eaten green, it can be very sour or soury sweet, and delectably crunchy but if you can wait for it to turn yellow, the soft, fleshy, sweet taste is simply a pleasure.

The more popular big yellow mangoes are called Carabao Mangoes and we also enjoy these unripe; green and so sour we eat it with our famous, if not infamous (because of the smell) "bagoong", a kind of condiment made of fermented tiny fish or shrimp.

There are many kinds of mangoes in the Philippines that finding a particular kind grown only in a specific place is but common.  If you happen to be in my hometown of Cavite, "supsupin",  the humble half of a palm's size mangoes are so sweet.  You just peel then suck ("supsup") all the goodness of the fruit, succulent and fibrous, you would end up finding the fibres in between your teeth, and that adds up to the fun.
