Hello. My name is Jackson. I am from Seattle. It's nice to meet you.
I have been teaching English in Japan since 2006. I really enjoy the work and have experience teaching a wide range of students. I mainly hope that I can make practicing English a fun and enjoyable experience for my students. So, if you feel nervous or worried, fear not. It's okay. I am here to help you! :)
My primary work has always been in junior high and elementary schools, and I also have several years of experience teaching coorporate classes, private lessons to adults and international school students, as well as small group lessons for kindergarten and elementary school students.
I am fluent in Japanese, so if you need any support in Japanese, I can help you there. I have passed Level N1 of the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) and Kanji Kentei Level 3, so please relax. If you have any concerns or worries I can help you with them.
I would like to help you improve your English abilities and have fun doing it. I will do my best to help make studying English as fun and stress-free as possible for you.
I'll talk about myself a little more. I have children so I spend most of my free time with them. I speak to them in English and their mother speaks to them in Japanese, so they know both languages. But they use Japanese all day at school so Japanese is their strongest language. I enjoy playing board games with them. Also, like many other parents, I always do my best to make sure they do their homework.
When I have time to myself I like to watch videos or read about the space business, the environment and renewable energy, science fiction, and social trends like generational differences and cultural differences. In the past, I was also very interested in politics and history, so I have a lot of knowledge in that area. I also used to enjoy skiing, hiking, movies and music. When I was a teenager my favorite music was rock music but later I learned to enjoy a wider variety. For movies, science fiction is my first love but I also enjoy many other genres as well.
I am from Seattle, and most Japanese people think of baseball when they hear Seattle because of Ichiro. I have seen Ichiro play in the stadium in Seattle a few times. But to me Seattle is a rainy place full of lush, green forests, tall trees, rolling hills, high mountains and amazing natural beauty. It is also the home of Starbucks, Microsoft (I worked there), Amazon, Boeing and Expedia. If you know rock music well, many famous rock musicians are from there too - Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and The Presidents of the United States of America. Saxophone player Kenny G and rappers Sir Mix-A-Lot and Macklemore are also from Seattle.
Although I live in Gunma, the car capital of Japan, I ride my bike to work. It takes about 30 minutes. Many people are shocked when I tell them this, but I think it's good exercise and a good way to save money. Although we do have a car. I use it mainly for family outings or shopping when the weather is bad.
