Hello! My name is Karen. I was born in the United Kingdom but I now live in California. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Davis. I have worked with students academically and am now also looking to work with people interested in getting counseling.
Academic Work & Counseling
I worked as a mathematics tutor, teaching college students algebra. Some of my students had learning disabilities and were very pessimistic about how they would perform in their classes and felt discouraged.
After working with them by listening to them and developing an academic plan catered to their learning needs, I was able to improve their performance in their classes. They became optimistic and happy over the course of the tutoring sessions and learned they can be successful.
I enjoyed making a positive difference in their lives and found it very rewarding to help change their attitudes from negative and unconfident to positive and confident. This is what led me to pursue my degree in psychology.
More About Me
I am a very creative person. Art is a big hobby of mine. Drawing and designing is something I have done since I was 3 years old. My artwork has even won awards and has been featured in a fashion show as part of an exhibition.
Also, I love to learn about different cultures. Aside from various places in the US and UK, I have traveled to Japan, France, and the Czech Republic. My time in Japan was my favorite experience that I had the good fortune to have. I hope to go to many more places as well.
Cafetalk
I joined Cafetalk because I want to be able to reach all people who need someone to talk to. I will always listen and be patient, respectful, and non-judgmental. I enjoy helping others and want to help as much as I can.
In addition, as a native English speaker (UK and US), I also offer English lessons through a fun and easy conversational format. I believe people learn best when they are interested in the subject, so I like my lessons to focus on topics the student would like to discuss.
