Hello! My name is Misha!
I am from the beautiful country of South Africa, but I have been living around the world for the past 10 years. I was raised in Europe (Italy and Portugal) and since then have lived in many different places around the world (London, South Africa, Spain and South Korea).
I spent the past 5-6 years teaching English in South Korea. This was a very interesting experience for me for many reasons. The culture was something I have never experienced before and I learned alot.
I am currently living in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. I look forward to this new adventure in Europe again.
Teaching Background
Teaching came as a surprise to me, because I initially only wanted to travel to South Korea for a year or two, but then I met my (now) wife and due to the pandemic, we stayed much longer because it seemed like a risky time to move. I taught all levels for almost 6 years, but the the level that I taught the most was higher level. I mostly taught elementary students at the start of my time in SK, but eventually moved up to middle school and high school near the end. This was more interesting than teaching elementary, because I could have conversations about topics that I was interested in and not only what a 7 year old enjoys that week.
Teaching Style
English is a confusing language for most, especially if you are learning or trying to improve it as your second language. In my class, I wont focus on the scientific grammatical aspect of English, because it is not the best way to learn. If it feels like a test, then someone will forget all the information that you leave my class.
I want my classes to be fun, light-hearted and conversational. I will propose a few topics at the start of the class and we will do a few written, speaking and listening exercises about those topics. They can be taught to all levels, but I would like my classes to be more adult centric, because I have taught extensively on Zoom and Skype, and keeping a childs concentration (if they dont want to be there) can be challenging. I am open to all ages, however children will need an introduction class.
My classes are totally customizable. I will add a topic lesson each week of different genres and talking points, but if it doesnt suit your flavour that week and you want to discuss sports, politics or anything else, then I will make accomodations.
What will you gain?
In my classes not only will I help you will pronunciation, spelling and speaking English, but I will focus on your confidence in speaking. I have noticed in many years of teaching that students are proficient at speaking English but are too shy to talk to anyone else. Join my class to gain one new friend, and I help you gain many more.
