Hello, my name is Sandra Kent, I was brought up in Sydney, Australia and moved to Tasmania, Australia to bring up my family. I have called Tasmania home for the past thirty years and I still believe it to be a wonderful place to live.
In 2004, I embarked on a journey that lasted for eleven years, I needed a job change and really loved the part of my job that allowed me to develop an education program. So, utilising those skills I headed to China to teach English speaking and listening courses.
My first experience was wonderful, it led me to teach English not only in China, but also Morocco and Thailand and saw me obtaining my Masters in Education, TESOL (MEd TESOL) in 2010.
When teaching I like to be prepaed and I like my students to be ready as well, but I also understand that sometimes other aspects of life get in the way. To get the best out of my classes students are often asked to undertake some prior reading or listening if you can do this then our lesson will be much more active and involved and hopefully enjoyable.
Before I became and English language teacher I worked in the community service sector, this gave me an insight into how people cope with positive and negative issues in their lives. This is valuable as I understand how things are inter related and the cause and effect of daily living, this is something that I bring to my teaching.
I also have a Graduate Certificate in Community Management, which has been a great help when I plan my business English classes. With a community and management background some of my favourite business English classes are Social Entrepreneurship and Negotiation Skills.
Overall, I am a fairly active person enjoying nothing more than a walk in the Tasmanian bush or a walk with my dog. In recent years I started kayaking and am look forward each summer to getting into the water and I enjoy talking about these pursuits. I also like to set time aside each day for yoga. This makes me sound extremely fit but to keep my life in balance I also like to sit back and read a book or watch a movie and if I can be doing that with a glass of wine all the better. I'm not a great cook but I do love to eat and talk about food and how to grow it and prepare it.
That's quite a lot about me. I have recently returned to Hobart and want to continue working with people from around the world and I look forward to meeting you.
