Hi, nice to meet you! 初めまして!
My name is Victor Ortiz, and I'm from Los Angeles, CA. I graduated from high school here in 2013, and then I moved to Amherst, MA to study at Amherst College. I graduated from Amherst in 2017 with a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy. In 2018 I moved to Japan as a Volunteer Missionary, and I absolutely loved Japan. I moved back to Los Angeles in 2020, and I'm figuring out the next part of my life.
I really like playing videos games, I love movies (espeically Star Wars and Christopher Nolan films). I like listening to music and playing the guitar and ukelele. I also love learning about the world and hearing about others thoughts and ideas!
My Teaching Experience. 私の教える経験
I have been interested in teaching since I was in high school. A lot of my classmates came to me to guide them through the homework we had. After graduating from college I worked as a tutor at my old highschool, helping study groups with the math homework that they had. I enjoyed helping them, and my students were able to better understand the material they were learning.
When I moved to Japan I taught a free Eikaiwa course as part of my volunteer activites. It was hard at first since I couldn't speak Japanese, but over time I learned what was most difficult about English for my students, and I was able to help them overcome those challenges. I was also able to improve my Japanese with my students :)
My Teaching Style. 私の教え方
I want to use the skills I learned teaching in Japan here in Hello Talk. Although I have no formal English teaching training, I've worked with a varity of japanese students and understand the struggle of learning English. A Japanese language student myself, I understand the struggle of learning any lanuage.
I can talk to you to see what your current level is and guide you with your studies to help you improve. I can either help you achieve you own goals, or I can help you set a goal and make a plan to achieve that goal. I work better with students who have an idea of what they want to improve, but I'm more than happy to work with any student, regardless of their current level or language goals.
I'm excited to meet you all! よろしくお願いします!
