Hello!  My name is Emily.  Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.  I'd love to help you reach your English goals.

Lesson Style/Focus:

My teaching style is more casual as I find that helps students to relax and learn in a more natural way.  I usually don't use things like repetitive drills, but help students to communicate the way native speakers do.

My focus is on conversation skills as well as reading comprehension.  I believe it is important to build a useful vocabulary, not just memorize lists of words.  Depending on your needs and interests, I can tailor the lesson to what you need.

Teaching History:

I've been teaching English in Japan for about 7 years.  I taught at a large eikaiwa chain for the first 4 years and have been working at a smaller school for the past 3 years.  I also teach some business English, but that is not my main focus.  I have experience teaching both children and adults.  

About me:

I was born and raised in New Jersey, just outside New York City.  In university I majored in anthropology and Asian Studies.  During university I participated in study abroad programs in Wales, Japan, and Malta.

My hobbies include traveling, photography, and skiing.  I enjoy learning and am almost always in the middle of a book, documentary, or journal article.
