Hello, My name is Monica Marshall and I’m from Edmonton, Canada.
From August 2018 to May 2022 I taught English in Japanese elementary schools. I learned a lot of Japanese along the way and a lot of new lesson ideas. Back home in Canada, I was a homeroom elementary teacher for four years so I have a lot of experience with children.
In 2016 my husband and I got married and came to Japan for our honeymoon. We both fell in love with the culture and way of life in Japan and made it a goal of ours to go back someday.
Together, we studied Japanese in a community class where we learned the basics such as hiragana, katakana, and basic kanji. Since we came to Japan, my Japanese has improved a lot and I passed the N5 exam. When I’m not teaching or studying Japanese I enjoy traveling, hiking, skiing, and bouldering.
Previous students have described me as being fun and energetic. My goal is for students to find my class atmosphere relaxed and fun. I also hope you will find my lessons valuable as I change my lessons to fit my student's needs.
If you are looking for a lesson for your child please tell me your child's age and experience with English. Once I have an idea of where your child’s ability is, I will plan custom lessons that will introduce new vocabulary and games that fit their level.
If you are looking for lessons for yourself I hope you will check out my conversation classes, as well as my lessons for practicing listening and discussing the NBC Nightly News.
Let’s work together as a team and have fun learning!
I look forward to meeting you soon!
