Hi! I’m Pina.
I’ve been teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages for 20 years here in Canada and online in China. As you may know, Canada is quite multicultural. This is great news for me because I get many opportunities to meet and teach people who want to learn English. I am also from an ethnic nationality since my parents are Italian, and yes! I speak Italian fluently.
I was born in Canada however my hope is to live abroad one day. I’ve visited countries on the other side of the planet such as Australia and the Philippines, in the UK (Scotland), the Caribbean islands (Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, St. Marten, Porto Rico and Bahamas) and of course the US since I actually live 10 minutes away from the border.
My passion for teaching English developed out of my love for other cultures. The people, the food and of course the history of different countries around the world. In fact, my family and I regularly host International students in our home for their semester at our local university. We’ve made many friends from Asia, Africa and Europe.
I have a degree in Psychology and a TESOL certificate.
I specialize in the following:
· Free-talk Conversation (using North American slang and Idioms)
· Pronunciation
· Grammar (at all levels – Beginner to Advanced)
· Study and Preparation for TOEFL and IELTS
· Writing (Essay and Research Papers, Resumes, Letters and Stories)
· Job Interview Preparation
· Proof-reading and Editing
· The history of how the English Language Developed
I teach children and adults one-on-one and in group settings, such as conversation circles. I use a variety of materials and media to teach, including ESL textbooks, classic literature, biographies, worksheet exercises, listening exercises, videos, role play and photos.
I understand learning English is intimidating and can be uncomfortable. So, I promise:
· I am patient and would never judge you for making mistakes.
· I will work at your pace and help you set learning goals.
· I am flexible and willing to accommodate different learning styles.
Join me here on Cafetalk for a great conversation and learning. See you soon!
