How To Write One Billion (In Numbers)

2013年12月17日

Hi!

Many people are confused about how to write one billion and above in numbers.

So here is a quick post about it!

There are two systems in place around the world.

The long scale and the short scale.

In the short scale, one billion is 1,000,000,000

In the long scale, one billion is 1,000,000,000,000

In places like the U.S, Australia and NZ the short scale is used.

In places like the UK and other places in Europe some people still use the long scale, even though officially, the UK has moved to using the short scale.

Other places like Canada use both scales.

No wonder it is confusing! But at least now you know why:-)

If you want more information about this, check out my lesson on "Numbers More Than a Million"
