'Christmas is a time of giving' - that great English quote - but not everyone is able to buy a gift, so think differently this year.

If you can and want to give a gift, think personalised.  It can be something as simple as a journal with their name on.  This really shows that you have thought about that person and they will feel special.  Or something like pyjamas, socks, etc - it really does make people feel speacial.

Some of the greatest gifts I've bought my family are days out - we've climbed the O2 in London together and had a fabulous afternoon in an escape room.  These are experiences we've done together and very happy memories have been made.

I've also given gift vouchers, like theatre vouchers - then the person receiving can chose what they go to see and enjoy their day with a loved one or friend (always buy 2 or more tickets!)

Magazine subscriptions are another good idea, as not everyone likes to browse online.

If you want to be even more personal, you can make presents.  This is especially helpful if you are on a budget.  One year, my husband made some wonderful wooden decorations, which he personalised with scraps of metal and engraved.  I've made scented candles, truffle chocolates and mini christmas puddings - all on a tight budget, but made and given with love.

I also do not buy Christmas wrapping paper as it generally cannot be recycled (due to foiling.)  I buy stock brown paper, stamp it with Christmas stamps or the recipients letter of their name, tie up with string and then use foliage from the garden or outside, along with baked slices of orange - makes the house and gift smell wonderful!

Think differently this year - give with love.
