Travel romance story - Magic beginnings

2022-08-19

The firsts. These are the most magical times.

No assumptions, no expectations, just a piece of blank paper. Yet you could write anything on it. You're the only one to give it limits, if any.

Kyle was Tinder match #539. If I'm being awfully honest, I used it to past time, nothing more. I didn't even want to meet anyone in real life because I was due to leave the country in a week. Kyle was an exchange student and had just arrived to Colombia. He hadn't even arrived to my city at the time we spoke. I told him the last weekend in Colombia I'd like to visit a small town nearby. He quickly invited himself to come along because otherwise we'd never be able to meet in person. I welcomed this idea, but it meant that he would take an overnight bus from another city, then immediately get on a van with me.

So I agreed to meet a stranger at the bus station and to commit to spend the whole weekend with them. My logic was that we'd be staying in a hostel anyway so that wasn't so different from just meeting someone at the hostel, right? Oh the things I tell myself.

But there I was, without any expectations, I just wanted to visit this small town, stay at this small hostel with a small pool, and enjoy my last weekend in Colombia (with a new friend). We got on the van and went on a bumpy ride that lasted about 1.5 hours. We chatted non-stop. Arriving at Sante Fe de Antioquia the hostel blew my mind. It was the perfect place to top off my stay in Colombia. So we chilled at the pool, walked around the town, and talked. The best feeling in life is to just be. Nothing to pretend. No one to impress. Feeling yourself at a relaxed state, and not trying to seem better than you are.

To me, thatwas magic.
