Hello everyone! my name is Hernan (エルナン) I moved to Tokyo from New York City in January 2019. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile!

A little bit about me 

I lived in New York City for almost 30 years. I am a bilingual native speaker of 
English and Spanish.

I have a master’s degree in exercise science from the University of California in Pennsylvania. I am certified English teacher from Hunter College in NYC where I obtained my TESOL certificate (teaching English to students of other languages). 




I am currently teaching English at an Elementary school here in Tokyo. I can teach children from 1st to 6th grade.  I can support your child to learn English and get good grades in school using the same books they are already using.
 

My interests and hobbies

 

I enjoy strength training, hiking, swimming, dancing and Japanese Jujutsu.
 

MY LESSONS IN CAFETALK

I love teaching! my lessons are professional, effective and fun. My aim is to help you achieve your goals with the English language. I provide a lot of encouragement and corrections in a relaxed, supportive environment.  

I have a student centered approach to teaching. This means that everything I do is done with the student’s goals in mind. I take a personal interest in the student's progress.

I believe in having fun and enjoying the process. I make and effort to keep the student engaged in a pleasant and productive environment.

In my class, we correct many mistakes children learn in Elementary  school. This happens due to class size or because some teachers are not native speakers of English. I teach proper grammar, pronunciation and I make sure students learn not only the language but also the culture and the context. 

 

What will I teach?

  • Children's English from 1st to 6th grade in Elementary school. Junior High and High School.
  • English conversation for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. 
  • Business English and Business coaching in English.
  • Spanish conversation for beginners or anyone interested in improving their Spanish.
