Hello! Hajimemashite! My name is Roderick Fitts. Rodorikku Fuittsu to imasu. I am a new teacher of the English language. I have a few months of experience teaching English in Malaysia to Japanese and Korean students (2019–2020).
In Malaysia, I taught lessons on grammar, sentence-construction, essay writing, TOEIC test-taking strategies, vocabulary practice, and some one-on-one open-topic discussions.
Teaching in Malaysia
Teaching Style
My teaching style is very patient and understanding. I like to ensure that my students fully understand what they read, write, speak, and listen to in English. I try as best as I can to correct any errors and help my students understand how to avoid similar errors in the future. I like to have fun in my lessons whenever possible, but hope to convey that the primary goal is for the student to steadily improve their English skills and knowledge.
History
I am a former military aircraft electrician and a veteran of the United States Air Force (2009–2017), and I spent time overseas in South Korea, the Philippines, and the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.). After finishing my military career, I got a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and worked several Human Resources jobs (2017–2020).

Currently, I fix military airplanes and take Graduate classes in Business Management with an International Business concentration. Recently, I realized that I miss teaching English, and so I decided to apply to teach again. I hope to continue to improve my English teaching skills and strategies, and to one day live and teach in Japan!
Hobbies
I love to travel, cook, spend time with loved ones, learn about Japanese history and culture, and to teach! I also like to find good Japanese shows, movies, and documentaries. My favorite Japanese show is Waratte wa Ikenai! (Absolutely No Laughing!) and I love newer Netflix series such as Jimmy (about comedian Jimmy Onishi) and Midnight Diner (深夜食堂, Shinya shokudō). I am also an anime fan, and I deeply enjoy One Piece and Demon Slayer. I do not do it much recently, but I like to read and write about philosophy topics as well.
