About me
Hello! My name is Jess. I'm a British PhD Student, currently studying at the University of Oxford and at the University of Tokyo as an exchange student! I recently returned to Japan after 5 years.
I love Japan, and I am learning Japanese as a hobby. My other interests include rock climbing, scuba diving, and astronomy!
Me (falling) at a climbing competition at my university!
Teaching Experience
I am a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certified English teacher. I have experience working at an English language school in Japan for 9 months, teaching students from ages 5-80. During this time, I taught both complete beginners and experienced learners, salary men etc.
My final day working in Japan, one of my regular students insisted on being in the photo! (she was a very cute 8 year old!)
In particular, I have experience mainly in:
•helping students prepare for Eiken exams
•spoken English practice
•written English practice
•business English
•travel English
•academic English (for University assignments, etc.)
•teaching alphabet/phonics
Teaching Approach
I strongly believe all students are unique in how they study and believe it is important to cater my teaching style to each student, therefore I aim to be very flexible. While some students benefit from an English-only lesson approach, I am also aware that for more novice students it helps create a more comfortable space if we use some Japanese. In short- it is completely up to you whether you want a full immersion experience or not.
I aim to build a good relationship with my students, and hope you will always finish our lesson with a smile on your face!
