Hi, I am Jia Ling Weng, an instructor of Chinese language, presently teaching at the DePauw University, State of Indiana, USA.
Over the past five years of teaching Chinese, I have had a lot of contacts with university students from various countries, especially those from the United States, and through these experiences, I have learned about their learning styles, their learning difficulties, their learning and career plans. I am particularly beholden to the State of Indiana for this current job because under the facilities of the college, I have had a lot of opportunities to interact and communicate with each student following the taking-up of more teaching and guidance tasks, I have come to learn more about the student's learning visage.
After my studies from Chinese Literature department of National Taiwan University and the Graduate Institute of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, National Taiwan Normal University, I have taught in Taiwan, Germany and the USA, more precisely in North Carolina and Indiana. These valuable experiences have allowed me to further implement the knowledge I have learned in schools. Each of these jobs is so rare and unique that it gave me the opportunity to interact at a different angle and learned different skills: in North Carolina, I trained in language drills and cultural activities; in Germany, I have tried classical literature reading lesson for the first time, and I have also strengthened for Chinese grammar explanations and imparting ability; in Taiwan, I learned how to run classes for multilingual learners (Japanese, Vietnamese, German, French, etc.), how to integrate teaching materials with life, the course program and the implementation details of the summer school also understood in the context of participation in administrative matters. Of course, I have learned a lot at DePauw. In addition to the experience mentioned in the previous paragraph, I have also learned through my interaction with other teachers in the Great Lakes region about the trend of language and cultural content lessons and I have made preliminary attempts in the school curriculum.
Shall you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will give me more information about me.
