Description
It is an enchanting, moving and surprising story about friendship, loss and challenges two children face. The characters linger with you long after you have finished reading the novel and its hero is as unexpected as they become beloved by the reader.
It's not a quick or super easy book to read, but the story about the two children mean that the language John Irving uses is not as complex as a book about two adults.
The primary subject in the book is faith, destiny and fate, not Christianity. I am not a religious person, and this is one of my favorite tales of all time. So please don't worry about reading about religious ideas, even though religion is mentioned often in the book, especially in the first 10 pages.
We can agree to discuss the entire book or we can meet more than once to discuss questions you have or chapters as you read them.
If you want to watch the film version of the book, it is called 'Simon Birch' and it was made in 1998. It stars Jim Carrey and Ashley Judd.
