Tutor Column Formatting Tips for Cafetalk Teachers: Today's tip is on superscripts. I tried them myself for "[citation needed]" in my last post, so let me guide you through how I did that.

STEP 1: Open the HTML editor on the column draft page. The regular tool bar only has the bare minimum of formatting tools, so you need to use the HTML editor.

STEP 2: Tag your text. The tags for superscripts are ^and. You enclose the text you want to superscript between these two tags, as shown in the picture below.
　
If you're wondering where the tag name "sup" comes from, I guess it's probably a shortened form of "wassup," which is a corrupted form of "What's up?"

STEP 3: See if the superscripts are displayed properly on the draft. Mine were.
　

STEP 4: It's showtime! Post it! Which I did, and an epic fail.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but it didn't work. That made me really sad. Are the superscript tags disabled in the tutor column? Anyway, this has been the tip on "How NOT to Create Superscripts." I hope this helps.

I'm sure you'd ラーザ・ビ anywhere than here right now, fed up being forced to read something totally useless about HTML. But, rest assured! I have something else to talk about that's unrelated to HTML but just as useless! Which is:

The song "ラーザ・ビ (Rather Be)" by British electronic group 清潔な盗賊 (Clean Bandit). The entire song is sung by the featured British artist, Jess Glynne. This song was a smash hit in the UK back in February, but it's a hot track in the US right now. In case you're not familiar with the term "electronic group," it means a group of electrons. 清潔な盗賊 has 4 electrons.

Lyrically, this song is about a couple who are now for some reason in a foreign land far away from home. They feel that, wherever life takes them geographically, "when I am with you, there's no place I'd rather be." According to the lyrics, they're now walking from "Kyoto to the bay." The question is to which bay??? It's too bay-gue. Be specific because I 湾 to know!

The video was shot in Japan. I can't tell exactly where in Japan just by watching the video, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere around Kyoto, ending on the beach at "the bay." The video shows a story about an obsessive female Japanese fan of 清潔な盗賊, who starts to see images of the group's members everywhere she goes, just like I see Cafetalk T-shirts everywhere these days. Have I been just hallucinating, too?

Anyway, this video got me wondering about a few things. You might have wondered about the same things, too. Here's the list of what went through my mind, with time stamps:

Anyway, I was lucky enough this time to be able to locate on Google Map's Street View the place named 娘龍飯店 you see at 3:02 in the video.

In the video, Ms. Abe dashes out of this place, so I wanted to do that myself virtually. To do that, I needed to go inside first, but the Street View didn't let me, no matter how hard I tried. I guess this is the kind of place that you must be 18 or over to enter.

【Cafetalkの先生方向け講師コラムの書式ワザ】 今日のワザは、上付き文字です。ぼく自身、前回のブログで、「[要出典]」の部分に試したので、そのやり方を手順を追って説明しようと思います。

ステップ１：コラム下書き画面でHTMLエディタを開く。通常のツールバーには最低限の書式ツールしかないので、HTMLエディタを使う必要があり。

ステップ２：テキストにタグを打つ。上付き文字用のタグは ^と。上付き文字にしたいテキスト部分を、下の画像で示されているように、これら２つのタグで囲む。
　
もし「sup」っていうタグ名の由来が気になっている方がいたら、おそらく「wassup」っていう「What's up?」の崩れた形が短縮された形かと思います。

ステップ３：下書き上で、上付き文字がちゃんと表示されているか確認する。ぼくのは大丈夫でした。
　

ステップ４：本番タイム！ 投稿！ ということで、やってみたら、見事に失敗。

何がいけなかったのかわからないですが、うまくいきませんでした。超悲しかったです。講師コラム内では上付き文字のタグは無効になってるんでしょうか。それはいいとして、以上「上付き文字にしない方法」に関するワザをお届けしました。役に立つといいです。

HTML に関するまったく役に立たない話を無理に読まされるのにうんざりして、こんなところにいるよりむしろ中野サンプ「ラーザ・ビ」ルにいたいとみなさん今思っていると思います。しかし、安心してください！ 他に話すことがあります！ HTML とは関係なくて、同程度に役に立たない話が！ それは↓

イギリス人エレクトロニック・グループ「清潔な盗賊 (Clean Bandit)」の「ラーザ・ビ (Rather Be)」という曲です。曲全体が客演イギリス人アーティスト「Jess Glynne」（ジェス・グリン）によって歌われてます。この曲は２月にイギリスで超ヒットしたんですが、アメリカでは今ヒットしてる曲です。「エレクトロニック・グループ」っていう言葉をよく知らないという方がいるといけないので説明しておくと、「エレクトロン（電子）の集合体」という意味です。清潔な盗賊は４個の電子から成ってます。

歌詞的には、この曲は、現在何らかの理由で故郷から遠く離れた異国の地にいるカップルについての歌です。彼らは、人生の事情で地理的にどこへ行かざるを得なくても、「あなたといっしょにいるなら、他にいたいと思うような場所はない（when I am with you, there's no place I'd rather be）」って感じてます。歌詞によると、彼らは現在「京都から湾へ向かって（Kyoto to the bay）」歩いてるところなんですが、「湾」ってどこのこと？ 曖昧すぎだbay？ ハッキリさせてほしい湾。

ビデオは日本で撮影されたものです。ビデオを見た限りでは、正確に日本のどこなのかはわからないんですが、京都近辺で、最後は「湾」の砂浜っていうことでほぼ間違いないと思います。ビデオのストーリーは、清潔な盗賊の執着的な日本人女性ファンの１人が、行く場所場所でグループのメンバーたちの姿が見え始めるっていうものです。最近いたるところで Cafetalk Tシャツを見かけるのと似てます。ぼくも幻覚を見てるだけなんでしょうか。

それはいいとして、このビデオを見てたら気になる点がいくつかありました。みなさんも同じことが気になったかもしれません。ぼくが心の中で思ったことを、ビデオの経過時刻とともに挙げると、

それはいいとして、今回はラッキーなことに、ビデオの3:02地点で映る「娘龍飯店」っていう場所をグーグルマップのストリートビューで見つけることができました。

ビデオの中では、安倍さんがこの場所から駆け出してくるので、ぼくもそれを仮想現実的にやりたかったんです。そのためには、まず中に入る必要があったのですが、どんなに頑張ってもストリートビューでできなかったんです。たぶんここは18歳以上じゃないと入れないような場所なんだと思います。
