Excuse my randomness, but do you ever have times when your heart suddenly beats really fast? I do. Every time I hear the siren of an ambulance approaching, my heart starts to pound, making a powerful, amplified sound like "BOOM CLAP! BOOM CLAP!" because my brain instantly thinks that some concerned (or just annoyed) neighbor might have called the ambulance to pick me up and transport me to the nearest (or the farthest) psych hospital. That thought really excites me because that's been one of my dreams since childhood. So, once the ambulance siren starts to fade, my heart sinks and gives out a meek "boom clap, boom clap." I guess this is what's scientifically known as the Doppler effect.

Now, let me introduce you to today's song, "Boom Clap" by British female singer Charli XCX. If you're wondering about "XCX," you're not alone. That must be an extremely rare family name. Anyway, this song is her first U.S. hit as a lead/solo artist, following her two U.S. hits as a featured artist:

Anyway, this song is basically a typical being-in-love kind of love song, with lines like "first kiss just like a drug" and "you're the MAGIC! in my veins." What's not typical, though, is the way she describes the sound of her heartbeat: "boom clap." I don't think a normal human heart would make a sound like that, so I guess she has a heart defect or a hearing problem. Either way, she needs an ambulance immediately. If she's in the United States right now, she should call 911, which is the number for just about any kind of emergency, as Tutor Travis explained. Later in the song, she sings, "you keep burning me up with all your love, ahh." In case of this kind of fire, she should dial 426227299737766.

Anyway, this song is from the soundtrack for the movie "The Fault in Our Stars," and the video is intercut with scenes from the movie. The first time I watched the video and saw the girl from the movie, I was like, "Wait, isn't that Amy?" Turns out it is. She is "Amy" from one of my favorite TV series, "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," which ended last year. I can't believe she's already dating this guy in the movie. I was devastated when she broke up with her fiancé, Ricky, in the very end of the final season. I loved that Ricky character. He's really a great, responsible, hard-working, gentlemanly guy. I really wanted them to get married. It's not too late yet, Amy!

As you've probably noticed, the music video, as well as the footage from the movie, is poorly edited. You see "Amy" playing her role, unaware of a drinking straw stuck in her nose. You see Charli XCX, unable to stand the itch any longer, scratch her head furiously at 2:40. Those scenes should have been blurred out.

The music video was shot in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The movie was filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as well as in Amsterdam. I tried to locate some of the spots you see in the video on Google Map's Street View, but couldn't even find the Netherlands.
