We don’t have a lot of scary or dangerous insects in Canada, but the house centipede is one that might give you the heebie jeebies. It has much longer legs than other centipedes, so it looks quite creepy, but it’s not dangerous.
As you might have guessed from its name, this kind of centipede likes living in buildings, and I have found them in every house and apartment I’ve ever lived in (even on the 16th floor) and also in the school where I used to work - they’re everywhere! In fact, I found one in my shower two days ago. The good news is that they eat other insects (like cockroaches), so it may not be a bad thing to let them live in your home.
They are not aggressive, and their stings have very little effect on humans. In fact, they will almost always try to avoid people. So, if you happen to come across one during your visit to Canada, don’t freak out. As scary as it looks, the house centipede means you no harm!
