Saying long numbers in English can be difficult. 

長い数字を英語で読むのは難しい場合があります。

However there is a useful hint, which native speakers often use.

しかし、ネイティブ・スピーカーがよく使う便利なヒントがあります。

Use commas!

コンマを使いましょう！

When native English speakers write numbers, they divide the numbers into groups of 3 using commas.

英語を母国語とする人が数字を書くときは、コンマで3つのグループに分けます。

34,937,248

The blue comma is “million”.

青いコンマは “million”と読みます。

The red comma is “thousand”.

赤いコンマは “thousand”と読みます。

To say the number above, say each group of numbers separately.

上記の数字を読むには、それぞれの数字のグループを別々に読みましょう。

34 = thirty-four

, = million

937 = nine hundred thirty seven

, = thousand

248 = two hundred forty eight

All together:

全部合わせるとこうなります

Thirty-four million, nine hundred thirty seven thousand, two hundred forty eight
