Hello
I'm Caroline, although I was born and raised in England I've been living in South Africa for years; it's an incredibly beautiful country with such diverse scenery.
I have a bull terrier, called Simon who likes to think that toilet rolls are a food item and not a bathroom necessity. Katie, a beagle puppy has recently joined the family, her naughty days are still to come.
Career History
I was a stockbroker for sixteen years investing funds for private individuals on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. I transferred to the Cape Town office in 1998 for the last four years of being with the company.
Then it was a two-year stint on a small farm in the Underberg region (the snow photograph was my view). The experience was a direct contrast to my corporate life but probably my biggest learning curve. I drove the tractor doing all the preparation work for planting eleven hectares, helped fight runaway fires, wielded a chainsaw, and a myriad of other things that I had no prior knowledge of.
Thereafter my partner and I opened a distribution business supplying goods to the catering industry. Starting small the business grew as we added new product lines, ventured into frozen and chilled goods, increasing staff numbers as needed. When we sold it fourteen years later it had a fleet of ten trucks and a staff complement of twenty-six.
Hobbies & Interests
I like to read, spending a few hours every day with my nose in a book. Photography has become a recent hobby, with a particular interest in birds, who don't usually don't sit still for the camera. Of course, taking pictures of my two dogs gives me great pleasure.
I'm lucky enough to live in a fairly rural area so I can take my hounds for a long walk either in the mountains or on farmlands; the beach isn't too far away for those hot summer days.
I thoroughly enjoy going to live concerts, ballet, and the theatre. Gardening is something I like to do, my fingers aren't particularly green but I'm good at weeding and, I'm happy to feel the soil on my hands.
General
I've had two mentors in my life and they were invaluable to me, now I'd like to help you reach your goals and dreams in respect of improving your English language skills. Whether it be vocabulary, pronunciation, confidence in speaking, reading, writing, or business-specific I'd like to help you.
I have a good sense of humour and like to see the ridiculousness of a situation. I'm patient with everybody but myself, so let's work together riding the waves of my sometimes tricky but beautiful language.
