New Reading Lesson - The Giver (Intermediate)

2021-09-09

Hello Cafetalk Community!

How are you? I hope you're doing well! I want to tell you about this fun reading lesson! If you would like to, I think it would be a pleasant lesson to read "Lois Lowry's" groundbreaking book. The book was on the Bestseller List for an extended period of time and has won the 1993 Newberry Award.

This book, "The Giver" is sure to change your perspective on life, and develop a deeper respect and appreciation for the loved ones in your life. I think it will be a well-spent, quality, 30-minutes. This book can be enjoyed by both adults and children!

[How the lesson works:]

I am not making this lesson a Value Pack (including a set number of lessons) because it is impossible for me to guess how long it will take each student to read 192 pages. As a result, I decided to divide the lesson up into 30-minute sessions. You can drop in to read a few chapters whenever you want and wait on the edge of your seat until the next time.

I will ask you questions about the chapter after you read each chapter to check your reading comprehension. This book is not a difficult read with reasonably easy vocabulary. Anyone who can read English will be able to understand the story.

[Book:] I will provide the book in pdf form, so you don't have to buy it.

I believe it will be convenient to take this reading lesson. Also, unlike a Value Pack, there is no expiration date. You can take the lessons at your own pace as many times as you want! Hopefully, until you finish the book.

[Speaking of the story, Amazon.com has this to say about the book:]

The Giver, the 1994 Newbery Medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time. The haunting story centers on twelve-year-old Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, the world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. Lois Lowry has written three companion novels to The Giver, including Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son.
