Latin is not only the language of classical authors but also the foundation of modern Romance languages, and it lies at the root of many everyday expressions.
This course is suitable for absolute beginners, intermediate and advanced students, anyone interested in improving their understanding of the Latin language and Romance languages.
This course aims to provide a solid grammatical and syntactical foundation, giving students the tools to read, understand, and translate Latin texts, from philosophical works to historical and poetic writings.
Detailed Program:
- Introduction to Latin: Origins and spread of the language, the importance of Latin in the modern world.
- Declensions: Understanding the structure of nouns, adjectives, and pronouns.
- Conjugations: Study of verbs and verb tenses.
- Syntax: Sentence construction in Latin, the role of prepositions and adverbs.
- Translation: Translating simple Latin sentences, with an in-depth look at classical texts.
Course Structure
Each session will include:
- Grammar explanations, covering syntax and morphology.
- Translation exercises of simple and gradually more complex passages.
- Cultural insights, with readings and analysis of selected texts from Latin authors like Cicero, Caesar, Horace, Seneca, and others.
Students will receive educational materials, including handouts, exercises, glossaries, and notes, to support their learning journey.
