Beginner Cello Lesson Plan

Duration: 30–40 minutes

1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)

• Stretch arms, neck, and shoulders.
• Practice bow hold and draw the bow across open strings.

2. Cello Basics (7 minutes)

• Sit properly with the cello.
• Hold the bow correctly.
• Practice smooth bow strokes on open strings.
• Place fingers on the fingerboard to feel the positions.

3. Simple Exercises (10 minutes)

• Play long, even strokes on open strings to work on tone.
• Focus on smooth, controlled bowing.
• Start using the first finger for basic notes.

4. First Song or Exercise (10 minutes)

• Play a simple song or exercise.
• Focus on clear sound and rhythm.

5. Cool Down and Review (5 minutes)

• Play a fun, easy piece or exercise.
• Review any challenges and set a goal for next time.
