Japanese verbs are divided into three groups. These groups are called group 1, group 2 and group 3. Depending on the group the verb is conjugated differently. We will focus on this because this grammar is very important.

１グループ(1st group)
ますの前の母音が i の音（The vowel before masu is i)
In the 1st group this vowel is always an "i"
あいます のみます よびます
a i ma su no mi ma su yo bi ma su
まちます ききます およぎます
ma chi ma su ki ki ma su o yo gi ma su
とります はなします いきます
to ri ma su ha ns si ma su i ki ma su
しにます
si ni ma su
2グループ(2nd group)
ますの前が e の音(The vowel before masu is e )
In the 2nd group this vowel is an "e" however there are exceptions.

ne ma su ta be ma se o si e ma su

a ke ma su

There are only two verbs in the 3rd group.
