I learned so much about renting a place to live! What to look out for, the idiosyncracies, the key things to check when looking for a place to rent on the web. As always, the lesson was as informative as it was pleasant!

After trying her other Taiwan travel lesson, I wanted to practice my Mandarin more with her, and also learn more about her experience as a patissiere during the pandemic, which she mentioned before and I find to be an interesting topic from a social perspective. In the end we branched off to other territory and even discussed some fraught political issues, so I discovered she has some intriguing opinions and interests! We had a fun chat and I got more than I bargained for. Actually we had some technical issues at first, but she managed it very well so it was no problem in the end!

So this last time she showed me a lot of useful daily life information, like what I can do at convenience stores, what to expect when renting a room, and more, although it was, as always, just plain fun discussing different things about life in Taiwan as compared to Japan and my country. She also was thoughtful enough to share with me some fun Youtube videos showing food you can eat in Tainan and Taipei!

Today she showed me information from all over Taiwan, because I said I'd like to 環島 (do a trip around the whole main island)! There's a lot of beautiful places and activities, especially toward the eastern side. As always, it was a very entertaining and inspiring time!

For the second time taking this class, she went to the trouble of recollecting interesting information about the city I want to study in (Tainan) and close to the school I would attend. I learned a lot about different interesting places to visit, to eat, and little details about the city's history!

I've already spent a few years studying Mandarin, so all the while using Mandarin (and explaining whenever I didn't understand) she told me a few interesting travel-related tidbits and recommendations, both of the standard “must see/do” kind and also of the more personal, “this is my favorite” kind, which was a nice balance. Still can't go to Taiwan for the moment, so I have to make do with listening to her and using my imagination, haha. Anyway, she's very friendly and encouraging—highly recommended!
