Thank you very much for the lesson today. I have learned a lot of great speeches through your lessons and I liked today’s material as well. I learned a speech needs to be authentic to grab people’s heart. A message can be powerful when it is truly true to the speaker’s heart. I think this is because people have an ability to see honesty and passion in it and then feel compassionate or related to the message. Also I would like to point out that the speech was addressed logically and chronically as if I was reading his autobiography :) Your lesson is not only about learning English but also finding myself :) Thank you again as always !

Today’s topic was Business English. We briefly looked into Business jargon that is often used. And then we read a CEO’s annual report where I learned how we can address problems and criticisms in a neutral way so that most people are be able to accept what is written positively without resentment. It was a challenging lesson, but a good opportunity to savor beautifully and clevery described sentences. Mr. Ian helps me a lot and generously extends lesson time. I always have this sense of accomplishment after his lesson :)

He is a very nice and enthusiastic teacher! I took his lesson just before the IELTS test. He found I was nervous, and started ice breaking at first. He always encouraged me and give some efficient advices. I could take the test calmly, I really appreciate his help.

Today we learned about excellent speeches and one of the secrets of successful leadership. Excellent speeches are often simple, easy to understand, humorous yet authentic.
They use vocal techniques effectively, such as tone (loud, quiet, whisper) or expression (comical, serious, angry, happy etc). They speak fast, slowly then sometimes put a pose.
As for success as a leader, I never thought about what I believe in my professional life, so giving that question to myself was a good starter. In reality, I think it is not easy to become a person whose beliefs are strong enough to inspire an entire department but I can just keep trying for the better. I was glad that you shared your experiences about your different businesses. I always appreciate your support and look forward to next lesson :)

Thank you very much for the lesson, Mr. Ian. We delved into our thoughts of “ Happiness and life balance”, which was really a deep topic to discuss.
Many people including myself are struggling to strike the balance between home and work. It was a relief when the article said that it is an on-going task and repetitions of a fleeting moment. It means, in my interpretation, I don’t have to be good at juggling these jobs all time but I just should try to make some possible adjustments when necessary. Short-cut to happiness may be to enjoy, relish and savor those fleeting moments and feel content with what we have already :)

Ian is an enthusiastic teacher. His wide range of experience and knowledge inspires me a lot. His interpretation of TED talk speech and suggestions are enlightening. His questions gives me opportunities to deepen my understanding of a material.
