Takayo-sans classes are always a pleasure. Here you will find a very attentive teacher who can guide you through the steps. I'm really struggling as a beginner with the fundamentals of both shodo and Japanese which is frustrating, but Takayo-sans guidance, patience and encouragement is really helpful. The feedback and teaching materials are always much appreciated too.

Another really good class with Takayo-san. Horizontal lines are giving me much more difficulty than I could imagine, but with Takayo-san's help, I'm sure I will improve. The pace of the lessons are just right, and the level of Japanese is adjusted very well to my needs.
As a teacher Takayo-san can recognise immediately where the strengths and weaknesses are, and advice and examples are always given. I very much appreciate this opportunity to learn with such a talented teacher.

This is a really good place for anybody wanting to learn shodo with a very patient, friendly and helpful teacher. My Japanese is at a low level, but Takayo-san spoke very clearly, carefully and made sure that I understood what was being taught. We went through some fundamentals with horizontal and vertical brushing. I struggled but feel like I learned many important things that I had missed before.
I'm very grateful to have found this lesson here.

I really enjoyed studying shodo with Takayo-sensei. She gives excellent advice for improving technique and is also encouraging. I highly recommend her lessons for anyone wanting to learn shodo.

I was traveling for the holidays, so I didn't have time to take this lesson for a while. I was so happy to start again and felt relaxed after the lesson. It is so much fun and even though I am a beginner, I can see an improvement in my writing. Since I don't speak Japanese very well, Takayo-sensei's explanations of the kanji meanings help me to learn a little more about the language while I write. Thank you!!

Takayo-sensei is an awesome teacher. She is very talented and is able to explain clearly in English, which is so helpful for me while learning Japanese calligraphy, as my Japanese is not good enough to understand explanations in it entirely.
Not only is the lesson enjoyable for relaxing, but I find it fascinating how even what appears to be a simple line has so much thought and details that must go into it. Additionally, Takayo-sensei gives me helpful feedback, and teaches me new words in Japanese as I learn to write. Thank you!! -

This is such a fun lesson to do every week. I am able to calm my mind and focus on each stroke that I make. Takayo-sensei can explain to me in English, which is really helpful. She is always enthusiastic, and is able to explain the specific details of each stroke. Even though I have a lot to learn, I enjoy taking this class and recommend it to other speakers of English who want to try a new form of art!

My son liked the lesson very much. Even it was a 90-minute lesson, he was very attentive throughout the whole lesson.
And the teacher encouraged him a lot.

This was my first lesson with Takayo sensei. It was so much fun! I am a beginner, but I really admire the beauty of handwriting Japanese characters. Today we practiced writing my name, and also tried 1 kanji. Takayo sensei's handwriting is, of course, beautiful, and even though my level is low, I felt that she explained precisely what I should do to improve. I will keep practicing--this is a very calming activity! Thank you so much!

Takayo先生の書道レッスンは非常に良かったです。落ち着いた雰囲気でとても丁寧に説明してくださり、たくさん励ましていただきました。私は書道の経験があまりありませんが、先生の説明のおかげで、漢字を書くことができるようになりました。書道に興味がある方にはおすすめです。
Takayo-sensei's Japanese calligraphy lesson was extremely good. She explained everything calmly and very carefully and encouraged me a lot. I don't have much experience in calligraphy, but thanks to her explanation, I am now able to write kanji. I highly recommend the lesson to anyone who is interested in Japanese calligraphy. -

We consider ourselves lucky to have discovered Takayo-sensei! I have been wanting my children to improve their handwriting in Japanese. We wanted a teacher that was not only skilled at the profession, but also good with kids and fun. Takayo-sensei has been all that and more. She takes something that is traditionally considered boring for kids(calligraphy) and turns it into something fun!

先生はとても話しやすく、優しくて、時間の使い方が上手でした。先生のおかげで子供たちは楽しく字の練習ができました。Takayo-sensei has a friendly and professional attitude and was great with my kids ages 6-13. I highly recommend her if you would like to improve your handwriting.

Takayo-san's lessons are always really good, and the feedback and suggestions have been excellent too. I'm in the very early stages of learning Shodo and Japanese but Takayo-sans patience and communication skills are well tuned. Each week I've been introduced to new material and revising what I am struggling the most with.
Always grateful to spend time with such a talented teacher.
