Hossawa no Taki, Hinohara, Tokyo

Feb 3, 2018

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are enjoying a relaxing weekend.

In my column today, I want to tell you about a beautiful place to visit not far from where I live. This is Hossawa no Taki, a beautiful waterfall in the mountains in west Tokyo. In the summer, when Tokyo is uncomfortably hot and humid, this is a deliciously cool spot to go to. At this time of year however, the waterfall freezes over creating a frozen spectacle.

This picture was taken several years ago (when I was much younger!!), when the waterfall was 100% frozen. I am planning to visit the waterfall with my family tomorrow, but I think at the moment it is only 80% frozen. It is still however an amazing sight and I love escaping into the mountains whenever I get the opportunity.

In addition to the waterfall, very close by is a tofu shop which sells a delicious range of tofu doughnuts, tofu ice-cream and also various varieties of tofu. My favourite type of tofu is yuzu tofu which has a really tangy flavour, so I guess we will be eating tofu for dinner tomorrow night.

Whatever you do, I hope you have great weekend!!

Mark
