Let's enjoy talking about Japanese food!!

Jan 8, 2018

Hi Everyone,

On New Year's Day in Japan, I know that most families get together and enjoy eating a variety of traditional food dishes. My wife's parents usually prepare a delicious feast of sushi and other dishes, and after eating a massive amount of sushi, combined with drinking large quantities of beer (no-one else in the family drinks, except me), I usually fall alseep on the sofa. No-one seems to mind, and I think my wife's parents expect me to fall asleep now.

This brings me to the topic of my column today, which is talking about and describing food. Talking about food is a popular topic of conversation in many countries, including Japan, but especially for Japanese students, how well could you describe the dishes in the picture to a visitor to Japan?

If you want to practice talking about food, and learn some new vocabulary for describing food, then why not take one of my General English Conversation lessons.

You can request a lesson by clicking here. Remember that you can also take a free trial lesson.

I look forward to talking to you and helping you improve your English.
