Do you need help writing a personal statement?

Jan 7, 2018

Hi Everyone,

In my column today, I want to let you know about another service I provide, which is checking personal statements for university applications.

In addition to having successfully completed 3 Master's degrees myself, I also have over 10 years experience of helping students to write successful personal statements. The things I can help you with are:

  • the structure of your statement.
  • things to include and things not to say.
  • checking your vocabulary and grammar.

Your personal statement is a very important part of your application and it can make the difference between your application being accepted or rejected. On average, a university might only spend ONE minute reading your statement. Therefore, your statement has to have an immediate impact and be easy to read and understand.

Common mistakes that students make, is that they write things such as:

'I want to study at London School of Economics because it is very famous, and lots of students from different countries study there'.

This will not help your application get accepted because London School of Economics knows it has a good academic reputation, and it also knows a lot of students from different countries study there.

The university wants to know about you:

  • what course you are interested in studying and why.
  • what specifically interests you about the course you want to study.
  • your work / study experience.
  • any achievements you have.
  • what your career goals are.
  • how the course will help you achieve your career goals.

Using my experience of helping students to write personal statements, I can very quickly help you to write a successful statement.

I look forward to helping you.

Good Luck!!
