最近ぼくの頭から離れない最新曲は、バンド「Paramore」（パラモア／「パ」にアクセント）の「Ain't It Fun」です。もっと正確に言うと、頭にこびりついてしまってるのは、冒頭の最初の数秒間のあのリズミカルなサウンドだけなんです。あのアップビートで気持ちのいいリズムを聞くと、外に出て太陽の下で新鮮な花粉を吸いたい気持ちになってしまいます。でも、アウトドアタイプの人間ではないので、窓を開けるだけですが。それはいいとして、あの軽快な音を出すのに使われてる楽器が何なのか知りたいです。ぼくの推測はハーモニカなんですが、音楽にぜんぜん詳しくないので、おそらく間違ってるでしょう。もし答えがわかる方がいたら、ぜひ下のコメント欄に書き込み願います。（ただし、「木琴」という答えは受け付けかねます）

それはいいとして、歌詞の面では、この曲はあるメッセージのように（ぼくには）聞こえます。実社会に出たら、本当に大変だけど、自分でやってかなきゃならないっていうメッセージ。で、パラモアのリードシンガー Hayley Williams（ヘイリー・ウィリアムズ）はそれを皮肉った言い方で「実社会に生きてるのって楽しくない？（楽しいでしょ？）」（Ain't it fun living in the real world?）って歌って伝えてます。さらに、曲中でそのあとゴスペル風に「お母さんに泣きつきに行っちゃダメ／実社会では自分でやってかなきゃだから」（Don't go crying to your mama / 'Cause you're on your own in the real world）って歌ってます。

「母親」といえば、来月は母の１周忌になるので、来たる６月１日（日曜日）は、ぼくのすべてのレッスン時間帯およびレッスンリクエストをお休みにさせていただきます。ご迷惑をおかけして申し訳ありませんが、ご理解願います。

それでは音楽に戻ります。この曲のビデオは、みなさん見ておわかりの通り、環境に超優しくありません。歌詞とのはっきりしたつながりもぼくには見えません。個人的には、このビデオはすべてがイケてないって思います。唯一の例外は、バンドメンバーたちが、１分間に何枚の音楽 record を break（レコードを割る）できるかの世界最高 record を break（記録を破る）しようとチャレンジする部分です。このダジャレは狙ったものなのかどうなのかわかりませんが、ぼくには面白く感じます。

record を break するといえば、ぼくが Cafetalk に加わってから丸１ヶ月が経ちました。レッスンリクエストがまったく来なくて、レッスン実施無しの日数の個人記録を毎日毎日破り続けてました。2014年 Cafetalk LVP（least valuable person／最低実績者）に選ばれるのは間違いないと思ってました。そしたら、つい数日前、ようやく初のレッスンを行うことができたんです。初の生徒さんに大感謝です！ それから、遅くなりましたが、第３回の Philip Philips の Ranging Fire についてのブログを「Like」してくれた方（どなたかはわかりませんが）にも大感謝です！ あれがぼくにとって初の（で、おそらく最後の）「Like」だったんです！

これで真っ暗な日々から抜け出せたので（そう願う）、新たな夢の追求を始めました。その夢というのは、「ドレミファドン」みたいなクイズ番組に出場して、たまたまこのパラモアの曲が使われたときに、それを見事に当てるというものです。なので、この曲がラジオでかかるたびに、人間的に可能な最大限の素早さでブザーをたたく練習をしています。イントロがかかる前でも答えられるのを目指して。問題点が１つ： なぜかこれが達成不可能な気がする。論理的に不可能っていう理由からではなくて、鼻水とくしゃみで集中するのが困難っていう理由から。どうしてこの曲を聞くたびにこのような症状が現れるのか謎です。この曲に対してアレルギー体質なんでしょうか。それとも、スペルチェック機能にひっかからずに、前の段落で「Phillip Phillips」と「Raging」の綴りをミスったんでしょうか。

My latest earworm is "Ain't It Fun" by the band Paramore. To be more exact, what's stuck in my head is only the first few seconds of that rhythmical sound at the beginning. That upbeat, feel-good rhythm makes me want to go out in the sun and breathe in some fresh pollen. But I'm not the outdoorsy type, so I just open the windows. Anyway, I want to know what musical instrument is used there to make that pleasant sound. My guess: a harmonica, but I'm no expert on music so I'm probably wrong. If you know the answer, please tell me in the comment section below. (NOTE: "Xylophone" will not be accepted as an answer.)

Anyway, lyrics-wise, this song sounds (to me) like a message saying that once you're out in the real world, you have to make it on your own, though it's really tough. And Paramore's lead singer Hayley Williams delivers it by sarcastically singing "Ain't it fun living in the real world?" Also, later in the song, she sings in a gospel style, "Don't go crying to your mama / 'Cause you're on your own in the real world."

Speaking of "mother," all my lesson slots and lesson requests will be closed on the upcoming Sunday, June 1, because next month marks the first anniversary of my mother's death. I apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your understanding.

Now, back to the music. The video for this song, as you can see, is so NOT environmentally friendly. I don't see any clear connection with the lyrics, either. In my personal opinion, everything about this video sucks, except for the part where the band members try to "break the world record" of the most vinyl "records broken" in one minute. I'm not sure if that pun was intended or not, but I find that amusing.

Speaking of record-breaking, a whole month has passed since I joined Cafetalk. Due to the total lack of lesson requests, I had been breaking my own record of days gone by without giving lessons, each and every day. I had been totally convinced that I would be named Cafetalk LVP(least valuable person) of the Year 2014, until just a couple of days ago when I finally got to give my very first lesson. Huge thanks to my very first student! Also, belated huge thanks to someone (whoever that is) that "Liked" my third post about Philip Philips' Ranging Fire! That was my first (and probably my last) "Like" ever!

Now that my darkest days are over (hopefully), I've started to pursue another dream: to go on a "Name That Tune" kind of quiz show and successfully name this Paramore song if they happen to use it. So I've been practicing slamming the buzzer as quickly as humanly possible every time this song comes on the radio so that I can answer even before the intro gets played. One problem: somehow I have a feeling that this is unachievable, not because it's logically impossible, but because I have difficulty concentrating due to a runny nose and sneezing. I wonder why I get these symptoms every time I hear this song. Am I allergic to this song? Or did I misspell "Phillip Phillips" and "Raging" in the previous paragraph, undetected by the spell-checker?
