Morning Glory

Weekly Topic: Summer Photography: Show us picture that describes your summer!

Jul 25, 2024

Hello! I'm Muu., Japanese language teacher.

The rainy season ended and summer is in full swing in my city. The maximum temperature is about 35 degrees Celsius every day. It's really hot!
In such a situation, flowers of morning glory please me every morning. They are so beautiful. Morning glory's vines grow a lot, so I plant it to use as a green wall as well as to enjoy the flowers.
Morning glory is one of the representative flowers of summer in Japan. It is often used in the design for many summmer items such as postcards, fans, yukata robes, etc. Their blue, purple, and white flowers look cool in hot summer. They bloom in the morning and wilt at noon, and one flower blooms for only one day. This ephemerality may also be the reason why Japanese people love morning glory.
It is said that morning glory seeds have a laxative effect, and they were brought from China as a medicine a long time ago. (Of course You should not eat them because they are also poisonous ) I pick the seeds after the flowers every year. I keep them and plant them the following year.

Well, how many flowers of morning glory will bloom tomorrow?

See you soon.
