Tara Westover "The Apprentice. Betray to find yourself" / "Educated". Tara Westover is an American writer, publicist, and historian. "The Apprentice" is an autobiographical novel by the writer. In the book, she talks about her difficult path from life in a Mormon family, where traditional education and medicine are not welcomed, to obtaining a scientific degree at Oxford University.

Tara Westover's story about her childhood may seem implausible or at least strange to the reader. However, this is the pure truth. Tara's parents do not trust the state, so they do not send their children to school. Father and brothers work at a local landfill. The Westovers also do not trust medicine: they believe that medicine poisons the human body, and therefore treat children with herbs and never give vaccinations. In addition, the Westovers live in fear of a possible apocalypse, so they stock up on fuel and food.

Tara is helped to change her views on the world by her older brother. He teaches her to read and then dares to leave the family and start a new life. Following her brother's example, Tara decides to fulfill her dream and move to another city.

"Betray to Find Yourself" is a published novel with such a subtitle. The heroine has to stop communicating with her family in order to follow her own life values. Despite the complex topics that the author raises in the book, the work is easy to read. The novel will appeal to those who care about the topic of "survival" in a difficult family and overcoming negative attitudes received in childhood.
