Rubrica di Clizia Mondini

Blue, bluish and shades of blue

Jan 17, 2023

Happy New Year lovely students,

I have been pretty busy lately and I have not enough time to write in the column weekly, like I used to.
Today I would like to talk about colors.
The colors are the quicker and easiest words that ESl learners are memorizing at the beginning of their learning journey. We do all see colors and we need those words to describe and communicate to each other.
Did you know that, because colors give us more information about a person or a thing, they are adjectives in English?

There are three ways that you can use a color in a sentence to describe something:

1. Verb ‘Be’ + Colour. e.g. My hair is blue.

2. Color + Noun. e.g. The blue hair is mine.

3. Colour is the Noun. e.g. Blue is the color of my hair.

I dyed my hair the other day, what do you think of it?
Can you describe my hair color by using some advanced English? Leave a comment below >
