Be content

Contentment is a simple word but it is a difficult concept.  Most of us know the meaning of the word but how many of us are content with our lives?

I spent most of my life being discontent.  I always looked at what I didn't have, instead of looked at what I already had.  Moreover, I compared what I had with what others had.  And what I had wasn't as good as theirs.  Sounds familiar?

I am sure I am not the only person who feels or felt that way.  One day (not too long ago) I decided I should change myself.  Someone once told me, if I cannot change the circumstances, I should change my way of thinking.  It is not an easy process.  It takes time and practice.

Besides changing my way of thinking, I am starting to appreciate what I have.  The more I appreciate what I have, I realize I have a lot to be grateful for.  And I became a happier person.

A Cafetalk student once told me that Shinto Buddhists believe that one should not ask for the devine to give you what you want.  If you keep asking,"I want this, please give me this."  Nothing will happen and you are still stuck where you are.  Instead, you should be thankful for what you already have, and stay positive.  In time, good things will happen.

This way of thinking is in line with what western spiritual healers believe and preach.  I was told by 2 tarot readers that I should not ask for anything from the devine.  I should be content and work towards my goal, and in time, my goal will be achieved.  "The universe has a myterious way of working things out", I was told.

I was pretty skeptical at first.  But it was worth trying.  I had nothing to lose.

I began to appreciate even the tinest things in life, such as, finding a new good Netflix drama, my dog is behaving better today, the leaves are turning red and I love this season, enjoying a cup of mocha which is a special treat (because sugar is not good for me, or anyone)...

I am starting to become happier, and I think my positive mood and energy does attract better things.  The things that I want are coming to me.  However, good days don't last forever, and there are bad days.  When I am in a bad mood, it seems everything else goes wrong, and my day(s) gets worse and worse.  It sounds weird and there is no scientific way to explain this.  All I know is, staying positive and happy will bring better things.
