My next destination is to the nineteenth century, in Britain often called the Victorian era. I have always enjoyed reading about history. I like to read about one topic, and then to change and choose another!
I studied medieval history for a while but I am also interested in the English Civil War in the mid seventeenth century, and in the Edwardian period, and in the Spanish civil war. I have recently finished a book on the history of coffee, and how coffee beans and ways to make and drink coffee have travelled around the world.
L.P. Hartley wrote in his novel, "The Go-Between", that "The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there."
We cannot travel back to the past, and perhaps, if we did, we might not want to stay there for too long! It is refreshing though to see what is similar to today, what is different, and to think how change happens.
If you would like to have an introduction to British history, then let me know!
