GRAMMAR EDITING

2022年5月17日

Tourism is seen by many countries as an important source of income, yet countries must also consider the harm that huge influxes of tourists regularly inflicted  inflict on them. Attractive scenic spot spots face the danger of being polluted and flooded with litter. Meanwhile, cultural clashes may become explode explosiveespecially where when tourists are openly critical of the countries they are visiting

The above text involved some edits to grammar. Let's see why they were revised:

Edit 1 - The text refers to tourism and tourist activities using the present tense, so the present tense should be used here as well. The present tense of ‘inflicted’ is ‘inflict’.

Edit 2 -  The writer is referring to the possibility of many tourist attractions being polluted, instead of just one, hence, the plural form of ‘spot’.

Edit 3 - The adjectival form is to be used here , as the word describes the clashes. The adjectival form of the word ‘explode’ is explosive.

Edit 4 - When is used to refer to something that happened during the time of a particular event. At this point in the text, the writer mentions that there may be cultural clashes during the time when tourists openly criticise the countries they visit.
