Roses are red.

Violets are blue.

Sugar is sweet.

And so are you.

Do you know that poem? It's most used as a love poem. It was created in 1784 as a nursery rhythm.

By the way, do you like roses? I love roses very much. I plant them in my garden and enjoy gardening. I also decorate beautiful roses in my dining room.

The rose is called the queen of flowers. I'd like to tell you about such 'roses' here. According to the ancient references, ‘roses are eternal life' were described in epic of Gilgamesh, more than 2000 B.C. That seems roses have been loved by many people since then.

From 6 B.C., roses have been grown in Greece and Rome. You can read them in some writings by Plato and Aristoteles. Historically, when it comes to roses, you may think of Cleopatra. It is said that she took a rose bath every day and spread roses all over her bedroom. The wife of Napoleon, Empress Marie Josèphe made a great contribution on rose development. She gathered various roses from all over the world to make a large -scale garden and supported a gardener, André Dupont. The Empress Josèphe made a great effect to breed ever-flowering roses.

In Japan, it is said that you can read the oldest roses in ' Manyōshū', that is 8th century anthology of Japanese poetry in 700 A.D.

Although many western roses were grown in the late Edo period, most modern roses have imported in Meiji Era. Recently, blue roses have been born by the people love roses, although it has been said that such blue roses are impossible.

We can enjoy various kinds of roses by the enthusiasms of those who love roses.

Why don't you stop and smell the roses in your daily life?

Thank you for staying with me as usual. See you next time!
