If I could go back in time, I would go back to England in the 1800s. Everybody was crazy about fairy tales and fantasy and gave them a try! From Hans Christian Andersen, who changed fairy tales forever, to Charles Dickens’s ‘The Magic Fishbone’ and ‘A Christmas Carol’, many authors explored this genre. This is the time of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, William Morris’s The Well at the World’s End, William Makepeace Thackeray’s The Rose and the Ring, and Oscar Wilde’s fairy tales, among many others. Many people believed in fairies, and forest and flower gardens were places where you could potentially see one of these magical and mysterious beings.
The world seemed like a fantastic place; it was still a time of explorations to the North and South Poles, and the technological advances made believe that everything was possible.
Happily, these stories are very much alive, and fairy tales are seen every day in different media. Why not explore fairy tales with me? I have several lessons on these fantastic stories. Check out my lesson on Hans Christian Andersen, the Grimm Brothers, and Oscar Wilde! We’ll talk about these stories using lots of pictures. If you want to talk about a specific story, check out my lesson called “What are you reading?” Let me know which story you’d like to explore, and I’ll prepare a lesson just for you!
