I am American, born in Annapolis, Maryland, and I grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, the home of the American Revolution. I am 63, and have been teaching off and on for more than 20 years.
I taught in a French high school outside of Paris, Ecole de Travaux Publique, at the European Union (under the auspices of Communicaid, a company located in Brussels), with CLL, a Belgian company that offers courses in many languages, and with Call International, at their offices in Waterloo.
I have taught Business English at companies, and to students in university. I enjoy teaching students of various levels, from beginners to advanced speakers.
I have developed a specific methodology to optimize your time studying with me. I use a number of different exercises to get you going, give you confidence and eventually reach your desired level of knowledge.
I also specialize in teaching written English, as I have a background in technical writing (American University of Paris), working at the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Communication (SWIFT), and copywriting, working at AB-InBev (formerly Intebrew) in their Corporate Communications department.
For several years I worked as an actor, on stage and in film, both in Los Angeles and New York City. This experience has helped me greatly to make my English courses more interesting.
Finally, I was a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch in New York, so my knowledge of business English is grounded in the real world.
My goal as a teacher is to understand your goals, and to tailor your lessons to your needs. Learning English should be interesting, and possibly, at times, even fun, and you should always look forward with anticipation to your next class.
I do insist that you make a commitment to learning English, and that you spend at least some additional time outside of class working on achieving your goals. Some people call it homework, I call it essential. You only get out of the lessons what you put into them.
My interests are wide-ranging: Music (I sing with a band), Tennis (I have a clay court in my back yard), Reading (crime fiction is my favorite), Movies, Cooking and Politics (I'm not active in Politics, but I follow it closely).
If you decide to learn English with me, I will make a commitment to you to ensure that you make significant and satisfying progress. And of course, I expect the same from you.
Here's hoping that we can work together.
