It was great having Ryu-sensei's perspective on the Japanese translations of the sentences. His keen sense of what is natural versus unnatural will help make the story that much more readable for its audience. Thanks so much for all your assistance, Ryu-sensei! close

Ryu-sensei had not c…  more Today's lesson with Ryu-sensei was the first I have had in some time, and it was wonderful to be back learning from him again! Ryu-sensei had not changed at all. He was friendly, accommodating, enthusiastic, and exceptionally helpful in providing me with the Japanese I was in need of to complete my sentences. Some of what I learnt today includes: 誘因 (catalyst), 博士課程 (doctoral course), 悟りを得る (gain enlightenment), and 取り組む (work on). Thanks so much for a great lesson, Ryu-sensei! Next week's can't come soon enough! close

In addition to helping me with medical vocabulary I was not familiar with, Ryu-sensei also gave me feedback on some Japanese sentences I am looking at posting on Instagram. The 60 minutes went by all too quickly! Maybe next time I should book two lessons back-to-back! Thanks so much for getting my Friday off to a wonderful start, Ryu-sensei! close

  In the first half of yesterday's lesson, Ryu-sensei helped me with vocabulary and expressions related to my university studies, including such words…  more In the first half of yesterday's lesson, Ryu-sensei helped me with vocabulary and expressions related to my university studies, including such words and phrases as ４択問題, 研究論文, 参考文献, and 根拠に基づく. In the second half, Ryu-sensei proofread and gave advice on the よくある質問 section of a website I am developing. It was another great lesson, with Ryu-sensei -- as always -- kindly and patiently waiting for me when I needed longer than usual to articulate my ideas in Japanese. Thanks so much for all your help, Ryu-sensei! close

We al…  more In today's lesson Ryu-sensei explained the difference between 思い立って (suddenly deciding to do something) and ふらっと (doing something on a whim). We also covered the words 単調 (without much emotion), 心身の健康 (well-being), and 先行研究 (existing research). It was a very informative lesson!! Looking forward to my next one already!
